Paradise

Many people these days are looking for a sure and certain route to paradise, or heaven.  The good news of the gospel of Jesus is that He has made a way for us to get to heaven.

The essence of the gospel is that Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for our sins.  In doing so he made a way for us to be forgiven and accepted in God’s presence. If we believe in Him we can have eternal life.

“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and beleive in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

Jesus spoke about paradise when he was on the cross. He was crucified between two criminals and they had very different responses to Jesus. One mocked Jesus and taunted him while they were all dying. The other humbled himself and asked for mercy.

He said, “ Remember me when you come into your Kingdom”, to which Jesus replied: “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise”. Luke 23: 42-43.

Both of these criminals had done wrong, they were both violent men. However, one recognized who Jesus was. One asked for mercy and received salvation.

We can all ask for mercy in the same way, however first we need to recognize that we are sinners too and have also done some things that were wrong. Jesus himself said ‘repent and believe’. We need to turn away from the things that we have done wrong and turn to Jesus.
