Creation

Creation and the love of God

In the Genesis 1-2 account of creation, God is depicted creating the universe, including man and woman. In Genesis 1:27 we read, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” From the very beginning God was intentional about creating humans and we read that humans were specifically created in the image of God.

If we look at the world, nature and all of the creatures in it, we can observe what many would call intelligent design. The intricate design even of just the human body is highly complicated and beautiful. The bible too echoes this concept when it says in Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

One of the things that sets humans apart from other creatures is spiritual hunger and a desire to worship. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

The bible also reveals that God created and loves each one of us individually and specifically. “For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well,” Psalm 139:13-14.

In various parts of the bible the love of God for each person is likened to a loving parent; a parent who wants to draw near to their child and also wants the very best for them.  Speaking of Jerusalem, Jesus once said, “…how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” – Luke 13:34.

God’s love for us is ultimately shown in the person of Jesus. God loved us so much that he sent his son to die for us: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,  that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16.
