Receiving

We are saved through faith in Christ and in Him have assurance of heaven when we die. However, God has not left us alone on the earth.

Jesus said, “But you shall have power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8.

Jesus told the disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit. Waiting takes time. We need to spend time in the presence of God in order to receive from Him. In addition to this, we can ask for more of the Holy Spirit. Jesus wants to come into our lives more and more.

Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Revelation 3:20.

God wants us to keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit. It’s not just a once off experience. You can always ask for more.

We receive from God by faith. Everything that we have from God is by his grace. We can’t do anything to earn the Holy Spirit, we receive the Holy Spirit because God is good. His favour is towards us because Jesus died on the cross for us. When we stop trying in our own strength and realise that it is all about God’s strength, we are free to receive from God.

Seeking to experience God is okay. We are not being selfish if we want more of God. We were created primarily for God. In the garden of Eden man and woman were in perfect relationship with God. This is what we were created for and is normal for us to long for God. It is God who is able to satisfy our hearts.
